About Therapy

558962893You aren’t broken.

But you have emotional wounds that need to be healed.

Your past experiences have shaped you; some were awful. People let you down. Things happened that were outside of your control.

You developed a solid wall that served its purpose. No one can penetrate your defenses.

But I can help you heal.

We’ll use talking, writing, moving, and breathing to release anger and shame so you can move forward with inner peace and strength.

Burnout is REAL.

You might not see it as burnout, but you probably know those days when it’s hard to wake up, get up, and get moving.

You’re always exhausted and have a foggy feeling in your head. It’s exceedingly difficult to concentrate and find motivation.

But think about it: You’ve never really taken a break!

Together, we will devise a step-by-step self-care plan to help you reclaim your energy and focus.

It’s all too much!

You’ve got plenty to worry about, but on top of that, there’s another stress-laden catastrophe every day.

Your body is designed to respond to fear with “fight, flight, or freeze,” but it’s left you constantly feeling frazzled.

How are you supposed to feel safe and secure? How are you supposed to sleep like this?

I can show you how to relax your entire system so that your mind and body work WITH you and not AGAINST you.

1990151144Come as you are.

Every part of you is welcome here. There are no judgments. You will receive full acceptance and learn to accept yourself, as well.

No issue is too big to tackle nor too small to prioritize. What you think, what you feel, and what you want matters. YOU matter.

However you show up, I’m ready.

At the heart of our journey together…

… is a strong therapeutic relationship where you feel safe opening up AND taking the necessary steps to change.

Humans are meant to connect. None of us can thrive in isolation. To connect with you, I will listen and learn about you. I will guide you to talk about your past, present, and future.

We will explore key people, events, and experiences that are meaningful to you and are related to your reasons for therapy and your goals.

Together, we will talk, laugh, cry, breathe, move, envision, plan, and achieve.

640692112Change requires action.

Connection is the foundation, but ACTION is essential.

First, we will build your self-awareness. Then, we will practice specific strategies between therapy sessions when you run into real-life situations that cause stress.

Repeating these new actions and choices consistently will help you change unhelpful reactions and patterns of behavior.

During our time together, I will believe in you, support your efforts, and hold you accountable to yourself.

Family is foundational.

It’s true despite the issues that EVERY family has.

Whether it’s your child, partner, parent, or sibling, I support you in your family relationships.

Even if you’ve been walking on eggshells, we will rehearse effective ways to communicate your feelings and needs.

I’ll teach you how to calm down from intense emotions so you can enjoy your time with your family.

You’ll feel good about how you show up for those you love.

About Me

AdminJust like you, my life experiences have shaped me.

As a child, my family moved around quite a bit, so I grew up in different places. It wasn’t always easy, but it helped me become adaptable and connect easily with others. I remember how, from a young age, I had the gift of empathy and a love for people, animals, and nature.

I played many team sports which always gave me a sense of belonging. I also learned the power of communication and relationships.

In my teens and 20s, I had personal experiences with social anxiety and panic disorder. I was able to fully recover through the use of therapy, medication, and strategies for regulating my anxiety response when triggered. Over time, medication was no longer necessary, and I have been symptom-free for over 20 years.

Moving into adulthood, helping people was a natural fit for me. That’s why I studied psychology and social work at Boston College.

I moved to NYC and began my career.

I had been working for about three years when, in 2001, the country experienced a collective trauma when the World Trade Center and other locations were attacked.

Over the next 20 years, I gained extensive training and experience working intensely with people all over NYC as an individual and family therapist.

In 2020, I started my online practice, and in 2021, I completed 200 hours of yoga teacher training to integrate breathing, meditation, and movement into therapy. These tools and practices have been instrumental in my well-being.

When I’m not doing therapy…

I strive for physical and emotional well-being. My time away from doing therapy is filled with family, friends, and intentional self-care.

Yoga, meditation, and breathwork are daily activities that help me relax and recuperate from the emotional work of therapy. Walking and strength training are also important ways of caring for my mind and body.

I love hiking in the woods and going to the beach. These are important places for my well-being. Of course, my therapy and other healing practices have helped me with my anxiety, stress, and relationships.

At home, I’m married and have a high schooler. We all love to eat, watch cartoons and movies, listen to music, and dance. We have a turtle named JJ, the class pet in my kid’s third and fourth-grade classroom. The teacher said “yes!” when we asked to adopt him after he came home with us one summer. JJ had a damaged shell that almost fully recovered after five years with us! I like to call him a “rescue.”

As the parent of a teenager, I have an up-close and personal view of the teen world and culture. My training as a child and family therapist has been useful in helping me cope with the challenges of parenting. It’s helped me understand the wide range of “normal” and keep things in perspective. That said, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and I am grateful to so many who have supported my journey.

I would love to know you and see how I can support yours!
